I have heard from the mouth of a former Italian Masi regional concession holder (similar to exclusive dealer) that all the hundreds of Masi bikes that he sold were built up in his shop. None came ready-built from Milan. The componentry was therefore all selected by the dealer off the shelf or special ordered. For all Italian Masi bikes that were not purchased directly from the Vigorelli shop, you could therefore have any and all types of equipment on the bikes. So, at least for Italian bikes, you can not speak of 'standard' or 'correct' equipment. About all that you could say is that there were certain components that are not correct because not age appropriate or not available on the local market at the time (for example Suntour equipment). As far as Chris' Martano's go, they are apparently age appropriate, of a brand that was commonly used on Masi and readily available in Italy at the time, so in my eyes, nobody could ever bee faulted for fitting these to an Italian Masi.
