I'll add my typical little note. I purchased a set of the "bow tie" labeled Martano rims last year for my 1975ish Alberto Masi G.C. (previously believed to be 1974), modified by Poccianti, that was shown at Cirque this year. Here is a pic of the label that came on the outside of the rim plastic wrapping:

...and just so you don't HAVE to copy, paste and click the link ... the label reads:

Cerchi MARTANO Corsa Torino - Made in Italy Tipo Strada 36 Fori

Clearly for racing, on the road, and with 36 holes. Sorry to say, I didn't get the weight of the rims before building them up ... bummer.

Also, even though they are mine, I wasn't sure about the grooved sidewalls, so I went down and snapped a couple shots of that:

Here then is just a bit of solid data about the "bow tie" labeled Martano rims ... albeit, not enough yet.

I've seen those with Ambrosios and Fiammes, and I'm sure other rims showed up on the bikes.. and if it started out as a frame only (and many did, I'm sure) the question is irrelevant.

I was more interested in the early 70s Masi GCs. The original bikes I've seen (admittedly, a limited number, probably a dozen or so) all had the truncated-pyramid-stickered Martanos. And my understanding is the Martanos were standard on the bikes assembled in Carlsbad, although others can confirm that better than I can.

The question was, and remains, *which* Martanos?? And in what year?
