Subject: [CR]Finding Mark Bulgier - info on AVIVA

Surfing Mark Bulgier's fine site on "Bikes I think are Cool", came across one labeled "Aviva". Aviva is apparently short for Alan Vivanco. I learned this because of a recently acquired repainted bike. The original owner had this to say:

email snip: "I bought the bike in 1975 for the express purpose of riding in France and the Netherlands the following year. The airline damaged the original paint on the return trip from Holland. Alan Vivanco, a Palo Alto bike painter at the time, repainted the bike with Dupont Imron. Alan has been doing car restorations since then and currently has a business in Grass Valley."

Additional information received verbaly was that Vivanco was well known in the 70's as a bike painter, did some auto painting and that his current thing in Grass Valley is restoring Woodies.

My new (1975) bike has an "AVIVA" signature painted on the left chainstay just as shown in one of the Bulgier photos. Paint and pinstriping on my frame is very nice, if a bit thick for best showing off lug detail.

So the Aviva bike pictured is a mystery bike. Is it a Jack Taylor?
