Well, as a fellow northerner, I feel much the same as Tom -- I need my winter bike projects to help me through (although I did just come back a hour or so ago from snowboarding at Smugglers Notch for my third day on the board in this still young season)!

The list has already heard about at least three of my winter projects: 1) restoring the 1969 Hetchins Vade Mecum II frame I recently purchased -- I've yet to make all my final decisions about components, but expect this to be mostly Campy Nuovo Record, with some type of center pull brakes -- likely either GB Coureur 66 or Universal 61, and possibly a TA Pro 5 Vis crankset; 2) 1975 Colin Laing I will restore using 1st generation Dura Ace and 3) the circa 1980 Ron Stout about which I sought advice some weeks ago regarding the best non-Campy, non-Shimano gear from that time. It looks like I'm going to use Mavic SSC derailleurs, a fine set of wheels w/era-correct bulls-eye hubs, a sweet Gran-Compe brakeset, crankset TBD. (Shhhh: I've also got an off-topic project to build a new dedicated time trial bike... I'm setting an ambitious TT goal for myself for next season: to beat my personal record on every course the Green Mountain Bike Club runs and I need all the help I can get, thus the new TT bike!).
