Not to take the physical to the metaphysical (or even the mini-physical) but to extend the notion a little bit beyond the physics of it all, anything that, to my mind, increases the appeal of an object (by sight, sound, or tactile sensation) increases its function.

I know it is not quantifiable, but looking down at a beautiful top tube or wheel (or lug) gives, I think, anyone a little charge, and makes it easier to run faster/jump higher, a la PF flyers.

And if you enjoy the look, you are more inclined to ride, and more inclined to ride longer, therefore, ideally, faster, or at least more efficiently.

Granted this has nothing to do with the physical necessity (or superiority) of lugs v. tig, but I am certain that for almost all of us we wouldn't be a part of this group if that was what it was all about.

Oh, and this works with Apple computers, too.
