Campy didn't do the black anodizing in the old days, but other companies did, for their own bikes. There was a Swiss company that took a group and black anodized the aluminum parts and gold plated the steel parts. We did this for a Davidson back in 1984.

Here is a guy who sells a kit and instructions to do any color anodizing yourself at home: http://www.focuser.com/atm/anodize/anodize99.html Looks pretty simple. When I have had local firms do anodizing, there is always a hefty minimum charge and then you have to wait. This might be worth looking into.

By the way, a list member told me about the Mirrachrome paint discussion the other day, and I have just ordered the kit to do it. If anyone wants something painted with that, let me know. I am anxious to try it out and I have one bike to paint with it already. I got the candy tints too. I think this might simulate the look of the Italian "cromovelato" bikes of the 70s-80s.
