The response from Derosa says that they don't use decals/stickers, but paint the name directly on the paint and then clearcoat it. Does anyone know how long they have been doing this? I would think this is something that started post-CR timeline. Did many builders/painters do this prior to 1983? I had a Tom Kellogg from 1979 that had the letters on the downtube painted.

Colnago started painting all their graphics on their bikes eight or ten years ago and most Italian companies have followed suit. Now bikes are starting to appear with sublimated graphics!

Rene Herse was one builder prior to 1983 painting on their graphics but this was done by hand and not by using stencils as they are doing now. Legnano was another company that painted their name on the down tube (the rest of the graphics were done with decals) but they used a stencil.
