Way also produced The Complete Cyclist back in 1952 - lots of great line drawings, including Harden hubs, Bayliss Wiley goodies, Osgear and Simplex derailleurs, etc. A great little book, and the later one makes more sense after seeing the first one. Seen in that light, the 1973 book feels like a 40s or 50s manual that lived on into the next age of bike books.

The Complete Cyclist pops up on eBay every so often. My copy came with a bonus - instructions for Lucas "King Major," "King Minor," and "King Sports" dynamo systems. This, in turn, reminds me of the lively discussion of the Prince of Darkness and the poster that allegedly graced their workshop - "Remember boys, Joe Lucas sez 'Home before Dark!'"
