Bryant Bainbridge warned us:
As long as everyone is talking about ebay records, have any of you seen this auction (7122002494)?
A NOS Ideale saddle that is about to break $800! Not a model I remember lusting after in the 60's & 70's, but obviously I had my nose a little too deeply in racing iron at the time. All the usual suspects are in on the bid. This must be the crowning piece for a well loved Herse.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As a note of caution, I'm quite sure this is not top-of-the-line (Duh!) for the Ideale saddles. My old, well-used, alloy-rail Modele 90 may not be new (and may be uncomfortable), but it has a much nicer micro-adjust clamp, sort of like the design of the Simplex post (but not as sturdy). The 90 also has a compression spring in the nose. Now, you don't think I'm just grousing because I have never even spent $100 for a saddle (or bought one new?)? Actually, I'm just happy that some of this stuff has fallen into my hands over the decades.
For the price difference, I think I'll stay away from NOS, and keep on buying and using "rider" and "bottom-feeder" class stuff.
