Hi all,

Sorry for the cross-postings, but I thought this was important enough for all, since many of us regularly buy & sell on eBay.

In the last week I have received 2 fraudulent emails asking for my eBay ID & password. The first came from eBay with a subject of "account investigation important notice" & claimed that my eBay account had recently been compromised. The second came from PayPal with a subject of "changes to winning buyer notification" & also asked for my eBay ID & password. Both looked very official and had the corporate logos on them. But that's not hard to copy.

I sent both to eBay at spoof@ebay.com and got a response that the first one was a phony. I'm still waiting to hear about the second one, but I think that it's a phony, as well. I'll let you know.

FYI, if you do send a possibly-fraudulent email to eBay, they want the entire header. So you may need to change your header view from "normal" to "all". I use Netscape 7.2 on a G4 Mac & I find that under "view" on the upper bar when I have Netscape running my email. You may find it else where if you use IE or another browser.

My husband received the same eBay email on his email account, as well, as did a friend. So apparently there's a lot of this sort of thing going around.

Be careful out there...
