Gilbert's response that the surroundings of the Ontario velodrome reminded him of North Carolina prompts me to let the list know that there actually is a velodrome here in North Carolina, in Asheville. It's an old car race track, but has been resurfaced and painted with the proper markings. 491 meters with shallow banking (12 deg.), much like the old velodromes at (I think) Herne Hill in the UK and in Paris; perfect for CR-era track bikes, like mine. We call it the Mellowdrome. It was damaged by the September floods, but is now back in operation.

Maybe you can come here and be reminded of Ontario.

Racing every other Tuesday in the Spring and Summer, and training workouts every Saturday. Check the Asheville Bicycle Racing Club website for details.
