As I am preparing to head to the North Country of Minnesota to celebrate my mother's ninetieth birthday (never rode a bike in her life and doesn't plan on starting now, she says), I decided that I would bring the Gillot along and have Chris Kvale paint it.

I noticed on two of the Gillots posted on the CR site, that they have what appears to be two badges, one on the headtube (I have that one) and the other in the middle of seattube (a la Giradengo's). Does anyone know if the one on the seattube is a decal or is it an actual badge? And one more question: recently, either on this list, someone posted a link to a blue and orange Gillot that had a color scheme very much like the Holdsworth Pros. Does anyone still have that link?

Tom, the three Gillotts (two t's) that I have, one from 1955 (road/track) and two from 1954 (one road and one road/track), are still original finish and were originally owned by Don Ferguson who was on the 1956 US Olympic team that went to the Melbourne Olympics (he rode track). All three have head badges and all three have Reynolds tube stickers at the top of the seat tube, but the '55 doesn't have any other decals and the two '54s only have the tiny gold script "Gillott" decal at the top of the fork blades.

I don't really know if Ferguson ordered the frames with no decals or it was Gillott's choice; if I had to guess I'd say that that they were ordered that way though.

Here's a picture of the '55 Road/Track that went to the Melbourne games: http://www.velo-retro.com/VRendez.jpgs/Gillott.jpg Fleur de Lis lugs and matching Fleur de Lis lugged steel stem and unique paint: "Crackle Finish on Flamboyant on Silver Base".

I'm sure Mark could tell you the proper decals as he has around 25+ Gillotts I think.
