Just to clarify one thing: I wrote fondly of assembling a hypothetical early 70s Cinelli GC from frame and parts. The sort of thing we all do all the time I imagine.
But, I have to say in the strongest terms, that complete, original bikes are BY FAR the most rewarding to own, than anything built up to look original. For me, the completely original bikes I own give the most pleasure. Talk about mojo. Complete. Original. Clean. That's mojo.
So, in that sense at least, I admire that white Gios. I STILL wouldn't pay 1800 bucks for it..let alone 2500. But, then, I'm not a big Gios guy either. I admire them. But not enough to buy one yet.
I keep hoping I'll find a *coin* bike at a garage sale for 100 bucks or something. All original, of course. <g>
