Richie ("No relation") Sachs asked,
(to paraphrase), does a modern OS pipe-ed frame with 04 braze-ons and all au courant detailing along with a 50 year appeal? ++++++++++++++++ I think that it can, when done respectfully. More than once I've spotted a brownish grey bike with bright red panels out of the corner of my eye, looking for all the world like a 60s Frejus. Rotating the eyes to focus, it's always a much more recent LeMond. NOw, I don't claim the eye of an artist or graphic designer, but it repeatedly brings a smile to my face, because it seems to honor the older design. Just my impression, of course, but somehow reminds me of a later musician doing great things with a theme from someone else's earlier composition. I'd sure rather feast my eyes on this kind of subdued and elegant traditional paint than the hyper-urgent in-your-face-ness of so many modern bikes. Again, just one guy's opinion, but I think it can be done well. Of the "replica" bikes that have been the topic of this discussion, I've never seen one and have no opinion. They just might be awful-looking, or I might convince myself that they are a neat curtsey to the past.
