apples and oranges. the frame you bought in 96 was made for my wife, aka the lovely deb, a year or 3 before that. it was not a typical frame of "the day" and was made off the books for obvious reasons. her frame was made with dubois lugs and some older appointments "just because", not for any other reasons. i went full OS by at least 94. e-RICHIE chester, ct

Richard, I actually wondered about that so I measured the tubes on my 1974 Witcomb and on the used frame I bought from you (a 1996 if I remember correctly). The only real difference was in the top tube diameter and even that was only about 1.5mm. The fork blades on the Sachs were much more stout that the Witcomb's but so are all the old Italian forks in my possession. (I only have one old Italian bike but I have some extra forks - that's another story, though.) I gather the latest Richard Sachs frames use more seriously oversized tubing such as the stuff used by Waterford? Seriously - if that's the case, how do these bikes differ so greatly in spirit than the DeRosa in question? That is, other than DeRosa's chainstays, which clearly don't have the effect on me that the builder desires... Richard, you're a nice guy and a great frame builder but you've lost me on this one.
