Yes, he was still in good enough shape when I saw him to stay with the pack at 36 mph at the Rose Bowl training races. I think he wanted to check the old legs out without someone recognizing him, when I saw him. I guess the deadly 'snap' that got him into the Olympics must still be there ;-) .

"A guy" named Ron Skarin was a 2-time Olympian, and while riding as the so-called "factory" rider established some (still standing) world speed records as recorded by that "Human Powered Vehicle Association" (IHPVA.) Quite the trackie as I recall seeing him around even up in San Jose from time to time? flying 200? Others I remember from then were Len Nitz and "Fast" Freddy Markham...these are the guys that would discourage a pudge like me from EVER trying to get into racing again, even if it were "only" Master's Class.
