Back around 1960, the first bike I ever bought with my own money was a Sears newsboy special, all chrome frame with a dashboard for horn and lights, springer front end, candy apple red and white accents & tail light, really cool. I added the butterfly (apehangers) handlebars ... whoops, getting sidetracked waxing ecstatic.

When I locked the coaster brake up on really smooth pavement (where the asphault had bubbled up) the tire would shriek almost exactly the same as cheap drum brakes on a car. I'd cruise the local roads and lock it up when a passing car was in the right position to hear it. I just loved watching drivers lock up their brakes and yank their necks around looking for the mystery car and seeing nothing but the cherubic kid on a bike.
