Let me say first that I've never joined the cult of campy, and as a 6'5"200+ guy, I've always needed a load of gears to get me up the hills. Even in my sub 200 lb years I rode a 50/39. And I surely agree that 36 is a middle gear! Why not use a triple crank that is/was designed to use a smaller third chainring instead of going to all the trouble of machining and jury rigging your NR triple? It isn't difficult to find a period correct one that will preserve your knees in the hills and mountains of WV: Stronglite and TA Cyclotourist come immediately to mind. Save your pristine Campy triple for valley rides......save those knees too! Doug Wagner (46/36/26 ) in Richmond..we know hills and mountains too..KY
