First of all, I love both brands and have own both types of bikes. But during the 1970's bike boom, paramount production never exceeded 4,000 units a year, while Raleigh production of a SINGLE MODEL, the International, exceeded 10,000 units a year. While not every one of these bikes was exported to the USA, I believe this suggests that Raleigh was probably shipping 2 or 3 campy bicycles (International, Pro, Team) to the USA for every Schwinn Paramount sold in the USA.

The Raleigh Campy bikes cost only 70-90% of the cost of a Schwinn Paramount, and so they sold in much higher numbers.
