Anything your read in Bicycling should be taken with a very large grain of salt. I wouldn't believe anything like this, from Bicycling, until it is backed up by someone who really knows about it.
It's well known that weight-bearing exercise helps to prevent bone-density loss, and bicycling is not really such exercise. However, why should cyclists have more bone-density loss than normal, active people who do not bicycle? It makes no sense, a priori.
We certainly have a few physicians and physiologists among our 700+ listees. Any comments from them?
