Learned to hate those things (pedals). Yes, great retention, but trying to teach the "forward-part-way-now-down-at-the-toe-now-forward-more-didyoufeeltheclip?-now push-the-heel-down" drill to riders who've never used ANY toe strap and clip pedal was a REAL headache. At any rate, MKS has a marvelous pedal that, IMO, has superceded the Shimano design. It uses a mechanical lock at the cleat which is both more secure and easier to use. It does require that the rider reach down and fool with it to release, so the road rider probably won't want anything to do with it, but the rider who NEEDS retention can't do better, I think, especially when combined with a pair of Binda Extras.
