I don't think that's a prototype, I think it may be the last gasp, final version. It wouldn't make sense from a design/manufacturing point of view to go from a backwards pedaling two lever system, to a forward pedaling prototype one lever changer, and THEN produce a backward pedaling one lever system. I suspect it's a last ditch effort to make something that "at least" changes while pedaling forward, to stem the tide of riders changing to the forward pedaling Simplex, like Coppi did, while the Gran Sport was being readied for production.
