Skip I recently wanted to put Simplex braze-on levers onto a simplex shift lever clamp that had older levers of the same shape, but it didn't work, at least not with the parts I had around to play with. The braze-on shifters are an assembly which included the mounting screw and backing plate, whereas the clamp has the backing plate already on it. I probably could have tried to disassemble the braze on assemblies, or mangle the clamp, but couldn't see a way to do it without destroying something in the process. Not at all like me to holster my hammer and step back from a challenge like that, but it seemed to be the prudent thing to do, at least until I have some pre-mangled parts to experiment on. Back to ba-cons for now.
