Hi folks, here are my two cents on this. With questions more so than any answers. Jan Ulrich would have loved to see Lance Armstrong on a first generation Dura Ace,Columbus SL/531 cycle in 2003.Jan would now be a two time tour winner IMHO. If the bike doesn't matter, why has Armstrong/Trek bought and disguised Litespeeds in some of the stages in these 5 victories?Must of seemed important to those experts,no? And of brakes, why did Armstrong have the team mechanics modify some old Suntour brakes to be identified as Shimano's for 1 stage?I think he probably thought it was important, and the team apparently did too, even with a Shimano sponsorship. They used an old pair of Suntour for a stage.Suntour is Shimano's arch enemy in Japan, after Campy of course.Someone tell me why they use very different bicycles for climbing,TT's,and the lazy days? Those are the days that very early on,Eddy Merckx may have ridden a PX-10 that was fairly close to a,for retail sale bike-maybe?And that is the 1 thing that is probably still the same. Why?'because the likes of Mr.Armstrong and Mr.Ulrich, and their team manager's seem to think it does matter. And I bet they know more about winning stage races than anyone on this wonderful and engaging list. You birds are going to make a semi-literate typist out of me yet! Harris Spracher Waynesboro Va.
