Pic of the Day 23 June Milano - San Remo, 1939

Osvaldo Bailo (Bianchi) leads Gino Bartali (Legnano) during the cold, rainy 1939 edition of Milano - San Remo. Bailo wears some sort of leg warmers, while Bartali opts for long sleeve jersey and heavy gloves.

Bailo's Bianchi is equipped with Campagnolo cambio Corsa - so far, this is the earliest picture I've found in these magazines.

Bartali's Legnano is equipped with wingnuts, and Vittoria "Margherita" shifter, back-pedal version. Bartali will go on to win the race, ahead of Aldo Bini, with Bailo finishing third.
