I started this thread, so just to add a little more: I contacted the seller again suggesting that it might not be stainless and he said that he was pretty sure it wasn't chrome as there was no flaking and did not appear to be chrome. He was also told by the owner when he bought it that it was S/S.

I wasn't convinced by any of this and as the price climbed, lost interest.

Joss Winn (still looking for a 52cm (approx.) bike to convert to Single Speed)...
