Greetings All

As my bike renovation proceeds I have at last reached the stage of having it painted. Assembly is not far away and the one thing I am missing is green cloth handlebar tape suitable for this 1946 Road Racing Machine. Any inspired ideas or leads out there? Thanks Alistair Johnston White Rock, BC

Shameless plug, but if you are into to French Bicycles, these are worth looking at. I tried to do good photos, but I cannot do the wheels justice. The quality of engineering in the hubs is fantastic. I would love to have ridden the

bike that these came from.

The item mentioned below went to a "cochecton" (one of us?) for =A3525.

This 1962 frame would have been from the Hurlow era, judging from the info in this thread, but would it necessarily have been built by him? Who else might have been working in the shop at the time besides Conway and Monte Young? When exactly did Board come aboard :-), and where did he go when he left?

They don't mention Harry Quinn. Did he get involved with Viking only after the sale and move to Londonderry? Yet some on the frames from the early/mid 60's show the almost straight fork blades often associated with Quinn.

I don't have any information that Harry Quinn built for Viking. I show that Harry Quinn lived in Liverpool, quite a distance from Wolverhampton. I also show that Harry Quinn Cycles started in the early 1900s, but I don't have any better information on whether or not there were other "Harry Quinn" builders. I believe the move to Londonerry came about 1967, so any early 60s Viking would not have been connected to the Londonerry production period. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL ------------------------------

I went back and checked - under Viking on the CR web site is a Viking brochure from the 70's after the move to Londonderry stating that the bikes are designed by Harry Quinn. The photos of the bikes look very much like Harry Quinn models from the same era.

The brochure also has some slightly deceptive language in stating the bikes are "Hand Crafted in Great Britain", although made in Londonderry. I thought the official phrase was "The United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland. Thus a bike made in Northern Ireland would be from the United Kingdom, but NOT from Great Britain. Can the Brits on the list correct me on that point?

Can someone tell me more about Harry Quinn. In the guide, I show

QUINN, Harry: 7/9 Walton Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L44PL England. Since 1901. Called Coronets until 1945.....

Jerry Moos points out that a 1970s Viking brochure says that the frames were designed by Harry Quinn. If Harry Quinn was an individual who started building in 1901, who was the Harry Quinn who designed the Viking--individual or company?

This site has a history with a banner (http://www.ciclimoser.com/azienda.html)that says La Cicli F.Moser was founded in 1979. The earliest model I've owned was the 51.151 model that commemorated Moser's hour record in 1984. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL ------------------------------

I recently bought a Moser w/ Nuovo Record on German ebay, purportedly ridden by Gregor Braun in the 1980 Giro D'Italia. Will snap a few pics and upload them when I get it built.

I know Moser was racing his own bikes during his racing career. See any of the older Graham Watson books.

Pic of the Day 14th June Giovanni Corriere, 1949 Tour de France =20

Large picture of Bartali's teammate, sprinter Giovanni Corriere, at the = 1949 Tour de France. Note the odd way he is wearing the spare around = his shoulders and neck. Also note the "Bartali" brakeset with gum hood = covers, Cervino rear shifter w/tension arm used with Simplex front = derailleur, short areas of chrome (less than 3 inches!) on the forks and = stays. In this month's Cyclesport, there is an article on Saronni which has a cool shot of Saronni and Moser racing in the late seventies (if I remember correctly).

Moser is riding a "Moser" badged bicycle.
