The body/bracket with the smooth flat front surface was changed around 1973(?) to the one with the projections and circlip at the top pivot. The change was made as an improvement.
The pivot posts had a bad habit of working loose because they weren't supported well enough (I've found failed ones in shop's drawer of failed parts and also have some that were modified with machined steel pivot posts and allen bolts threaded into the posts from the front of the body/bracket).
The first design of a part is esthetically pleasing... then you modify it to fix its failings.
