Yes, the starting price is awfully high. But the reason I consider it too high is because I feel it is a big mistake to start your auction on eBay with a large starting bid. You won't get a large group of people bidding on your auction when you make this fairly common mistake.

I think these two bikes could be conceivably be worth the starting bids ($1700 for the '80 Masi and $2500 for the '80 De Rosa) because of the near NOS condition and the fact that some buyers will pay a premium for something that is in new condition. There is a saying in the collecting world, "Condition is everything."

Your last sentence states a reality we all face. How patient are you vs. how much money do you want to spend vs. how likely is it that you will find the same bike for the price you want to pay vs. how many riding years do you have left to wait for the right bike vs. how much do you really want the particular brand vs. ???
