"The seller thinks this is a raleigh but i don't think so. it has a fastback cluster but its not a Carlton one. it appears to be a track bike with a PUMP PEG. It has stronglight cranks which are anomalous for a track bike. does this make it a path racer of some type? Anyway, who do you think made this bicycle frame?

http://ebay.com/<blah>

Don, were you thinking of buying this odd collection of parts and chipped paint?? My guess is that the frame's origin is lost to history. The type of pump peg leads me to think that it's not within the CR span of interest, and therefore is not related to Carlton. It could still be a Raleigh of some sort (UK manufactured?? Did Raleigh USA ever build a track bike?).

The photos are quite intriguing. Appears to be the classic "paint job applied with a broom", and then handed over to children to throw rocks at it. Looks like it might have Campy track hubs, which would be nice. The Stronglight 93 crank has always been a favorite of mine (discounting the odd BCD). The Campy seatpost might be useful too. Otherwise, this bike doesn't have a whole lot going for it (imho, of course!). For the right price, this could be an ideal messenger bike, or just a city bike. After all, who would steal it?? (and are we sure this isn't a stolen bike?)

sorry, not much constructive commentary to offer.
