Jerry:
Shimano's Exage group was a late 80's early 90's era. Way off topic. But, on the first generation Shimano cassettes/hubs, (in 6 or 7 speed configurations), there was no lockring. The smallest cog threaded onto the freehub body. You'll need 2 chain whips to spin off the last cog on that cassette.
HG cogs fit on to the UG cassette body with some modification, but a 6sp HG
cassette is as dificult to find as any UG cassette these days.
Once again, sheldon brown is a good resource for info.

Loose screws is a good resource for the parts- if you are not picky with the cog range you can buy em.

In the process of 'restoring' a mid - late 80's XT equipped mtn bike- pre U brake, with a 6sp uniglide cassette and thumbshifters, and looseball bottom bracket. Lots of muddy cobwebs.
> Speaking of Shimano pullers, anyone know where to get one for a Shimano
Exage? This appears to be an early cassette, so I guess it is technically a
lockring tool rather than an FW remover. This came on my mid-80's Mercier
Bordeaux-Paris. Might be a couple of years off topic, but I didn't know who
else to ask. Also, do any other Shimano cogs interchange with Exage?
