No idea what an alternate or the proper name is. Asked because I remain puzzled by how to identify bars by their shapes. I get the impression that each bar shape has a proper name either by custom or manufacturer baptism. I guess if I ever hit the lottery and have nothing better to do, I'll do a Field Guide to the Bars a la Roger Tory Peterson. Hmm... I wonder if they make different tones if one were to trumpet through them?

Is there another term I should be using instead?
