attaboy, dale-issmo!!! tho it CAAAAAAAN be done, replacing a steerer is on the low end of the totem pole, as far as prudence goes. too much reheating of an area in which alotta important stuff needs to be paid attention too. it's almost never worth it if continued riding is the goal. a resto, well maybe that's a different story. all imo. e-RICHIE chester, ct hard 'cross workout today...

Just about any bike can have the steerer tube replaced, I can't think of a reason why they couldn't, given the attending craftsperson has the skills and patience. BUT, I should mention that frame repairs like this are messy, overly time consuming, and a general pain-in-the-aspirin. A frame builder deserves a medal for doing this grub work, especially when he/she could be making a bike frame scratch that was new steel, new parts and not nearly as much trouble....
