Subject: [CR]Reflecting Retro Cool

The 60s and 70s were coolest when spent on my bike, the same one I ride today - my 1960 Swiss Tornado - and also my 1960 Olmo track bike (that I traded in 1970 for an upgrade gruppo). Cool, too, were the unattainable bikes hanging all over John's Bike Shop in Pasadena/San Gabriel, and to a more earthly extent the mechanics working in back of John's. Cool was I always riding in surf trunks or Bermudas, and for longer rides with two pairs of jockeys versus a chamois; plus a tee-shirt with boat shoes. Never did wear cycling shoes as my feet are EEE (hard also on toe straps). Uncool, but later cool (sympathy), was sliding into the curb in front of my high-school girlfriend's house on my Olmo when both Clement silks rolled off, leading to a broken arm: Alas, that was a great ice-breaker between me and my future father-in-law who was standing there watering his lawn. In other words, the 60s were thinking you were cooler than you really were!!
