I agree. In the last 6 or 8 years, I've had better luck with USPS than with UPS. During the UPS strike a few years ago, the fill-in UPS guys left a parcel containing perishables in front of an outbuilding, 50 yards away from my house, where I discovered it a week later. I switched to USPS, who I thought performed very well in their big opportunity during the UPS strike, and I've contunued to use them ever since. The problems I've had receiving stuff from Germany and Holland (or Netherlands for the nitpickers) I put down to the US Customs Service, not USPS.

I seem to to a lot of that lately. A buddy was desperately awaiting an item from me that he needed to finish out his new Peter Johnson. He sent me extra money to have it overnighted to him. Feeling acutely sympathetic (I too am waiting for something to finish out a major project...Brian???) I braved the Blizzard of '05 and headed to my local Post Office through 8" of snow. I got there and it was nearly deserted, but there behind the counters stood the usual cadre of suspects grinning their usual welcome. I swear they were glad to see a familiar face...maybe any face that day. It was 11:30 AM. I ponied up $17.45 and asked about when my buddy could expect delivery. To my astonishment they said by Noon the next day or it was money back! We are not talking Lansing to Chicago here, but Sunnyside California! I had some doubts, but smiled and trudged back to my waiting and snow covered steed, which was shivering in the parking lot, dreaming of its garage. When I got home I E-Mailed the lucky owner of the PJ (And also a Cinelli Laser I just found out) in his Warm Weather Heaven (Sunnyside, indeed ! GRRRR...) and told him it was coming. This morning I find that it did, Indeed, make it to his doorstep on time and all is well with that part of the world. Neither rain, nor snow nor dark of night...Man! The Postal Service is great! Perhaps it is Karen's good influence? I also wish to wish Jan good luck on that Rene Herse he is fighting tooth and nail for. Sure hope he gets it!
