Griff, First things first a Happy New Year. You have got to take a look at this photo. http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/album17/FourPlusFours?full=1
Bet it takes you back it did me. Looks like the Barnet, Lampard or any other club on a run in the fifties or sixties. All thats missing are the Walls or Lyons Maid cape wraps, kipper extensions and the berets. If you ride with our local CTC or 40+ they still look like this but wrinklier. What ever happened to Alex-Sport and Sergal these riders could have been kitted out by Ron. I never wore the plus-twos and certainly never had the bottle to wear Ron-Kit whipcord culottes! The tight Worthy tweeds with the ankle zips and the continental sweater were my style.. You can still get the knitting pattern for the girlfriend or the wife from the Fellowship. My Mum knitted me one looked the "business" but she used ordinary wool not oiled first wet club-run and it was down round my ankles looked like a bloody sleeping bag bless her. When my daughter Rachel sees pictures of how we use to look she p----s herself and says Dad you looked a right plonker. This chap called Aldo Ross does this site its bleeding marvellous and is a real credit to him and his efforts. Historic and entertaining. Don't it bring back the memories. Simplex and Trivelox cables breaking and leaving you stuck in top miles from home. Did you sell that nice Kenniston? Since you advertised it everyone I meet is reminiscing and chatting about them. Probably because they were the last decent cycle shop left in East London. If you come across a good pre 1935 lightweight that I can race and ride in veteran events please keep me in mind. I can't keep blagging that its a 35 machine I am riding, sooner or later they will no that I am at it and be challenged. Bloody stupid rule but the NAVCC won't budge. Been the same since the 60's when a 1935 bicycle was still a spring chicken. Hope to meet you on a VCC bash. Have rejoined, my turn to bore their b-----ks off now. ATB Mickey Butler .
