I have a CompeV, which is also a "high normal" Suntour derailler that I'm using with a half-step+granny along with a Cyclone GT in back (48-44-26 x 14 -28 five speed). It handles a triple nicely but may depend on having proper bottom bracket and crank combo to keep rings within swing of derailler. The Spirt may work as well but the CompeV is a nicer piece. I can't comment on your cable outing problem but let us know what you get to work please.
