I've been asking myself that for years. Toei remains my favorite contemporary builder.

Wanna see a bike that even nicer than the 50th anniversary models? This one takes my breath away every time I look at it.

Yeah, that's a nice one.....note an interesting detail that could have been improved upon. Purely cosmetic but makes a very big difference indeed. Rather than running the white paint up the edge of the lug, the lug/tube joint always looks far more beautiful if the mask is done at the *bottom* of the lug-edge, where the tube meets the lug. Baylis always does it this way, far as I know, and it's one of the reasons his frames are so striking. Running the paint up the edge of the lug obscures the beauty of the joint. Doing it Baylis's way makes the frame very lively..more like art than craft.

I wish more painters would take this kind of thing into consideration...
