Well stated!

Peugeot had models of bikes with racks, fenders, and lighting made by the thousands. The contributions of the top makers certainly defined the state of the art and others fell in line behind them.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> Peter,

\r?\n> Like many things, it all depends... There were many less

\r?\n> expensive randonneur bikes made in France and these achieved a

\r?\n> measure of popularity and infuence in France and beyond her

\r?\n> borders.

\r?\n> So if the great constructeurs essentially defined the design

\r?\n> parameters for this type of bicycle then they are ultimately

\r?\n> some of the greatest contributors to "French Bicycle Culture".

\r?\n> If they were simply providing the ultimate, most expensive

\r?\n> expression of this type of bicycle, then they are something

\r?\n> else again.

\r?\n> Lack of name recognition does not necessarily imply a lack

\r?\n> of influence or importance. Since the term "mojo" gets used

\r?\n> often on this list, let's use an analogy from popular music.

\r?\n> Only a minority of music fans have heard or would recognize the

\r?\n> name Muddy Waters, yet his influence and importance is

\r?\n> incalculable and far exceeds those of many people who have sold

\r?\n> millions of records.

\r?\n> Such might also be the case with Singer, Herse, Routens, et

\r?\n> al.

\r?\n> Best regards,

\r?\n> Fred Rednor - got my mojo workin' tonight
