Hi Ted.

I have never heard of "black" finish chain/crank set in 60's nor 50's production.

If it is anodized, the surface is very very hard, and shines with some depth of gloss or semi-gloss finish with some grain while the black paint is like Japanese varnish, it does not shine in depth. If you see fine scaffings and scratches, it is NOT anodized.
