Hi Tom,

There's at least two different designs for Legnano bolts. One is for bikes without a saw-cut at the lug, the other works for bikes with a saw-cut.

The one you describe is indeed like a Legnano bolt for bikes without a saw-cut - the bolt clamps around the seattube.

The other design has a bolt with a cresent cut-out, but without the bit that slips over the end - the bolt pinches the lug together, which clamps the seatpost.

At least that's how I remember it.
