Question for those who may know-

The San Macros period Masi frames are distinct from their predecessors in most visibly from a distance by the revised headlug shape, all the other fittings changed as well sometimes multiple times it appears.

Most visually different (at a distance) other than the lack of the headset "ring" or lip is the revised shape of the head tube in between the lugs, caused by the revised shoreline shape.

So, who did the styling? The why will probably be left unknown, with the minor changes in the graphics package there appears a very planned attempt to maintain family styling and identity but the lugs definitely went through a transition.
