Subject: [CR]'80s Masi ride qualities

I'd like to point out that by no means are all American '80s Masi bikes poor riding merely because of the decade they were made in. The '81 I have is a wonderful riding bike, with just exactly the kind of ride that Charles Andrews was lauding. I recently owned an absolutely mint '89 that was exactly as the ride that Charles was finding fault with. Sometime during the '80s the geometry became more Crit-like, but it took a few years. I also think the workmanship on the '80s ones I've owned was at least the equal of the early ones I've seen. Now to really add some spice here, I'd point out that with the low bottom bracket and all that was attributed to the early Masi bikes they were more Richard Sachs like. Just not as good riding. I love 'em both, but I do often feel that we Masi owners do tend to over rate them. Tom Sanders Circling the wagons in Lansing, Mi
