Typical with cyclist I know, no matter what you do someone will tell you that you did it wrong so what ever makes you happy and looks good to you do it. I always make mine a little on the longer side so I can trim them down when I pull them out to redo the brakes or change the bar or stem. If you make them too short then you may have to replace them and these cables are getting up there in price. Have a good weekend all as I look out the window and see piles of snow and think about riding I can only smile because it is Friday so my friends will be over for beer soon and we will talk about bikes. Depends on your taste, I guess. For a superlight bike, make them as short as possible. If you plan to use a handlebar bag, make them long enough so you can flip up the lid of the bag while riding without interfering with the cables. Or anywhere in between!
