Be careful as shoe polish is not permanent. I did this about 7 or 8 years ago when I started to get back into cycling. Grabbed my old PX-10 which mom and dad still had and freshened her up - including black shoe polish on the Brooks Pro saddle. At some later date, while trying not to have a heart attack on my first ride in many, many, many years, I got home exhausted and sat my sweaty ass down on our wicker porch furniture - you know, the type with off-white canvas covered cushions. Well, by looking at my black shorts you'd never think there was an issue. However, looking at the seat cushion, I can advise that black shoe polish does transfer from saddle to shorts to cushion yielding unsavory comments from the spouse and a look of stupidity on my face in addition to the look of exhaustion. I'm sure a picture of me at the time would have been priceless - or good for some serious bribery.

Use leather dye for shoes - that, I have found does not come off and works quite nicely. So says I, looking a bit less stupid and actually in reasonable shape these days too.
