Lets see, what five bikes are at the top of my list?

1. Assenmacher sport touring or touring frame. Matt A. was THE builder for us AYH touristas back in Michigan in the day. Too bad Matt isn't building anymore, although he's still doing repairs and fine resprays.

2. Cinelli in classic silver. Rob Hawks, one of my first good riding buddies back when I was young and impressionable had an absolutely gorgeous example, with 151 mm cranks, fully sloping crown, fastback seat stays and so much brio I couldn't stand it. It was a special Sunday when the Cinelli came out.

3. Jack Taylor, either Nervex lugs or Fillet brazed. The chapter on the Taylor brothers in "The Custom Bicycle" by Kolin and De laRosa was always my favorite, describing the friendly bike centered business that was the Taylor brothers. Plus they are fine machines, and I love the pinstriping. Given a choice, I'd probably want a racing model, just to be different.

4. Stan Pike. Such good bikes that two is not enough. If I didn't already have two he'd be first on the list. If you have a chance to grab a Pike, do it.

5. Curt Goodrich. One of my favorite KOF makers, his machines have excellent construction work and a fine sense of aesthetics. John Pergolizzi rode one two winters again on a BVVW ride that knocked my eyes out. The bike had a great history, but I can't remember all the details. If fact, when I decided to buy my first bespoke bike in 25 years, Curt got my custom. Frame should be delivered this spring. Plus the Goodrich name blends well with my mostly British collection. Curt, I hope you're not secretly French or Belgian. See his galleries on the Pacenti Lugs website.

On another thread and please send this to CR only so that others may see your selection. I'm quite positive this will get a reaction. If you only and I mean only had 5 (count em) bikes to collect what would they be. In order of importance please!!!!

The Envelope please?
