Subject: [CR]Schwinn New World/"singles"

Hi Folks:
I think it's worth pointing out that the Schwinn New World on eBay that got us so neatly out of the Italian Stallion rut lately was carrying a set of 28by1;1/8 U.S. Racer single tubes on narrow wood rims. These are the missing link between sew-ups,tubulars,boyaux(guts),tubolari and so on and the Dunlops of 1890.They are the reason that our Ozzies call racing rubber "singles",as in "single tubes".Our directly experienced Ted Ernst,jr.,recalls these being called "stone crushers"by the club riders of the forties. These skinny single tubes also came in a natty red color,so Vivid is nothing new.
