Since, during the '60s and early '70s, I did a lot of touring in NY State, New England, Ontario and Quebec I'm certain I was influenced by Mr. Konski without even realizing it. I toured on my own a fair amount but also went on a number of AYH rides. As you mentioned, you could find a decent number of French style touring bikes on those rides. Certainly there were enough that I thought these were actually common amongst adult riders. (By that I mean folks who were already college graduates when I was in high school and college.) Little did I know that I was in a somewhat insular world. But I appreciate that you've helped me understand it a bit better, even though we're 30 years removed from those days.
