Subject: [CR]Recently Acquired Saddle Questions

Hi All,

Two interesting saddles recently came my way and I would like to better understand them and their place in history.

The first is an Aquila Superior aluminum rail model I suspect is from the 1930s/1940s. It is very lightweight, dark brown in color and rather narrowly shaped. It has eight small brass rivets, two metal reinforced saddle bag loops in the rear leather and three holes on top.

The second is a Special hammock model with spring loops in front and rear that I also suspect is from the 1930s. It is quite substantial, light tan in color and suede-like in finish. It has nine chrome rivets, two long chrome wire brackets and two shaped slits on top. There are no saddle bag loops.

My questions revolve around age, country of origin and common usage patterns. As relevant they also revolve around historical significance and contemporary desirability.

Anyone know much about these saddles?

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Best regards,
Eric Anschutz
