Since I'm most likely over four postings today, I'll risk that wrath of the Dalemeister. Sorry Dale !!

With regard to the 1939 Trio, the group is intact, as it is exacting as to what is listed in the 1939 Hetchins catalogue. All the componants are in reasonable shape and with one or two small bits needing rechroming, but in general they only need a good cleaning, and polish to bring this interesting piece of Hetchins histoty back to life.

The frame on the other hand is straight, with no rust internally, but the paint is soft to the touch and rubs off as you run young finger over it. I talked to somebody, possibly Len Ingram about this a few days ago and was told the paint may just be brittle and have dried out. I thought it might have oxidized. Except fot the head tube decal which survived in amazing condition as it was lucky to be hiding underneath a brass badge for sixty years, all other decals are just a ghost and what appears to be silver luglining is mostly deteriorated. The chrome headlugs and other chrome lugs were hand painted over in a contrasting dark blue long ago, but the main tubing appears to be original paint.

The question I pose for listmembers, is if this bike were yours, would you restore the frame to accurate period look, and reassemble the bike once all componants are cleaned up, or would you clean the frame up as best possible and reasemmble.

Disclaimer: I've already made up my mind as to which direction I will eventually take this cycle, but I'm very interested in seeing other points of view.

Just curious !!
